The Department of Physician Assistant Studies at Charleston Southern University is seeking a qualified candidate who will oversee all aspects of the clinical phase of the program and participate in didactic instruction, admissions, advising, and assessment in the program. Ideal candidates would have a minimum of three years experience as a practicing Physician Assistant and would have experience in developing and maintaining clinical sites, developing clinical schedules, and overseeing clinical education. This is a 12-month full-time position with administration responsibilities, which reports to the Program Director.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Program Director, Associate Director of Clinical Education, and the Clinical Coordinator to design and implement an ongoing clinical site development plan to ensure the program has adequate clinical sites.
- Oversee the design and implementation of ongoing preceptor development and training strategies.
- Oversee and maintain the schedule for the clinical year of education which includes assisting in the coordination of students and instructional faculty during supervised clinical practice experiences and student Call Back Days.
- Oversee clinical site monitoring and the assessment of the clinical phase of the program, including evaluation of student performance, preceptor performance, and clinical site quality.
- Oversee the facilitation and instruction of Call Back Days for students in the clinical year.
- Ensure that the programâs clinical phase is in compliance with the Standards of the ARC-PA.
- Review and revise, as necessary, the mission statement, goals, and competencies for the program.
- Provide student instruction in the didactic and clinical phases of the program. Â
- Evaluate student performance and ensure the availability of remedial instruction.
- Develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate curriculum.
- Evaluate the program by participating in the programâs ongoing self-assessment, analysis, and accreditation processes.
- Provide academic advising to students.
- Participate in the selection of applicants for admission to the PA program.
- Participate in program committees as assigned by the Program Director, such as the Academic and Professionalism Progress Committee, Admissions Committee, Policy Committee, Curriculum Committee, and other ad hoc committees as necessary.
- Participate in state and national PA organizations as necessary to promote the program and the profession.
- Represent the PA program through service on committees at the University level as required.
- Pursue faculty development in activities outside the program, such as clinical practice or scholarly activities agreed upon by the Program Director and the individual.
- Perform other duties as determined by the Program Director from time to time.
- Of note, the Director of Clinical Education must not participate as a health care provider for students in the program, except in an emergency situation.
